Longest urban zipline opens at Dubai Marina

New zipline is said to be one of the steepest, fastest in the world

Measuring one kilometer in length and with an incline of 16 degrees, the new zipline is said to be one of the world’s longest and steepest.
Building on the first one, the new XLine is double in length and offers daring duos the chance to enjoy the experience together, on two concurrently running ziplines. Moreover, the ‘superman-style’ harness lets zipliners channel their inner superhero.

Dubai: “It’s time for a new exciting adventure from @x_line.”

So said Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, as he took a plunge with his uncle Saeed on Dubai’s latest, spine-tingling adventure destination — a zipline at the Dubai Marina.

It’s an exciting kick off for the city’s latest thrill which, at 1km, is said to be one of the longest, steepest and fastest ziplines in the world.

The Crown Prince, also known as “Fazza”, leads an adventurous lifestyle and has been seen jumping off planes, sitting on top of the spire of Burj Khalifa tower and plunging the depths in a scuba.

With Shaikh Hamdan, sports hub XDubai has unveiled the latest adventure destination, called “Xline”.

It lets thrill-seekers an exhilarating ride at an average of 80 kilometers per hour across a one-kilometer line with a “spine-tingling” incline of 16 degrees.

Given that the Burj Khalifa stands 830 meters, the new zipline is definitely longer than the world’s tallest tower.

The Xline builds on the popularity of the earlier zip wire which was launched in late 2015 at The Dubai Mall over the Dubai Fountain.

The new line is double in length and offers riders to travel in pairs.

Mohammed Javad, general manager of XDubai, said the first zipline proved to be popular so they wanted to “step it up more than a notch” with the latest adventure offering.

“Following the success of the first XLine, we wanted to step it up more than a notch and importantly, give both residents and visitors to Dubai the opportunity to have a true-to-form XDubai experience.

The result is like nothing else – two ziplines — the world’s longest in an urban setting, in one of the world’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.”

According to Guinness World Records, the longest zipline as of March 2016 measures more than two kilometres in length (2,205 metres) and can be found in Toroverde Adventure Park in Orocovis, Puerto Rico.
